ORİKEM: AI-Powered Forest Protection

9/29/2025 A+ A-

As the General Directorate of Forestry, we have implemented AI-based applications developed with domestic technologies as part of our ORİKEM (Integrated Forest Monitoring, Protection, and Response) project to safeguard forests. The project enables the detection of illegal activities, immediate response to incidents, and digital analysis of collected data.

Within the project, AI plays an active role in detecting forest crimes, providing rapid on-site intervention, analyzing and classifying data from camera traps, generating statistical reports, and supporting strategic planning. AI-powered camera traps are used to identify forest crimes and combat them effectively, while saving valuable resources and time.

Camera traps are currently deployed in 30 Regional Forestry Directorates across the country. These devices enable round-the-clock forest monitoring, creating a proactive mechanism to prevent potential crimes. As the use of camera traps becomes more widespread, awareness, vigilance, and deterrence increase significantly. For this reason, we continue to strengthen forest protection efforts by annually updating our digital monitoring systems and AI-based technologies.
