Ecotourism refers to a tourism approach that is in harmony with natural resources and sustainable practices, and with the increasing interest of urban populations in nature, the demand for ecotourism services is also rising. As the General Directorate of Forestry, we have set the expansion of ecotourism areas as a strategic goal to meet these demands in line with our 2019-2023 and 2024-2028 Strategic Plans.
Within the framework of the 2021-2025 Ecotourism Action Plan, activities such as hiking, cycling, and horseback riding are offered in the established ecotourism areas, while also aiming to provide economic benefits to the local community. Additionally, by aligning ecotourism areas with forest villages, contributions are made to the development of the local population.
The number of ecotourism areas, first established in 2017, has now reached 107, and it is planned to increase this number to 200 by the end of the 12th Development Plan. Some of the newly established ecotourism areas are as follows: Düzce-Akçakoca Waterfall, Balıkesir-Erdek Kapıdağ, Kars-Sarıkamış Keklik Valley, Eskişehir-Çatacık, Samsun-Canik, Aksaray-Hasandağı, Denizli-Eskere, Isparta-Eğriyol, Adıyaman-Şelale, Bilecik-Söğüt Domaniç Ottoman Migration Route, Bilecik-Pelitözü Selöz, Ordu-Akkuş, Mersin-Kayacı Valley, Ankara-Beypazarı, Antalya-Selçuklu Caravan Route, Tekirdağ-Naip Waterfall, Eskişehir-Kocakır Therapy Forest, Manisa-Uncubozköy, Burdur-Akyayla Aziziye, Denizli-Kızılyaka Belevi, and Konya-Akçapınar ecotourism areas.
