The launch of the book titled yakMA, which tells the story of forest fires in our country, written by reporters and forest workers, was held in the Conference Hall of the General Directorate with the participation of our Minister, Mr. İbrahim Yumaklı, in collaboration with the Turkish News Cameramen Association and Öz Orman İş Union.
Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı, Deputy Minister Abdülkadir Polat, General Director Bekir Karacabey, Öz Orman İş Union President Settar Aslan, and Turkish News Cameramen Association President Aytekin Polatel attended the program.
General Director Bekir Karacabey gave a speech in the program and said, ''We plant millions of saplings every year in our green homeland that we borrowed from future generations, and create carbon sink forests. We are ranked 6th in the world and 4th in Europe in afforestation work we have carried out in our forests. We do our best to protect our forests, which have countless benefits, against all threats. One of them is forest fires. While fighting forest fires, we are also fighting fake and inaccurate news. At this point, accurate news and studies are of great importance. This work holds a significant place in conveying this information. Fighting forest fires is difficult, but important. You cannot extinguish a fire that you have lit with your own hands with your tears. That is why we say DO NOT BURN and we express the importance of not burning from here once again. I want to thank our President, Minister, civil society organizations, volunteers, colleagues, and everyone who contributed to this work, who supported us in fighting forest fires.''
Speaking at the program, our Minister Mr. İbrahim Yumaklı said, ''We are in a period when the shadow of the forests is more valuable than its trunk. Unfortunately, 84% of forest fires are human-driven. For this reason, awareness and consciousness-raising studies are among our most important fire-fighting elements. The work called DO NOT BURN is an important work in fulfilling this awareness. I believe that this beautiful work will create significant awareness in our society. "I would like to thank the General Directorate of Forestry, Öz Orman İş Union, Haberci Kameraman Association, and all the individuals and institutions who contributed to this work," he said.
