OGM Responded to 371 Wildfires Between July 29 and August 2

8/3/2026 A+ A-

The General Directorate of Forestry (OGM) responded to forest and non-forest fires across Türkiye with extensive aerial and ground resources between 29 July and 2 August.

During the five days, a total of 371 fires were recorded, including 145 forest fires and 226 non-forest fires. OGM teams worked around the clock to bring the fires under control as quickly as possible.

Aerial firefighting resources played a vital role in the suppression efforts. OGM's firefighting aircraft logged a total of 2,083 flight hours, carrying out 7,749 sorties and delivering 23,347 tonnes of water to the affected areas. The coordinated efforts of aerial and ground crews enabled rapid and effective response to the fires.

High temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds, which become more prevalent during the summer months, significantly increase the risk of wildfires. The General Directorate of Forestry therefore urges the public to avoid any actions that could cause fires, exercise the utmost caution in and around forested areas, and immediately report any signs of smoke or fire to the 112 Emergency Call Center.

The General Directorate of Forestry remains firmly committed to protecting the Green Homeland through its strong aerial and ground firefighting fleet, advanced technological capabilities, and the dedicated efforts of its personnel, working in close coordination with all relevant institutions and organizations. Because the greatest success in combating wildfires is preventing them from occurring in the first place.
