Pinus Pinea Pruning and Silviculture Practice in Kozak Plateau

12/9/2025 A+ A-

A pruning and silviculture practice for Pinus pinea was carried out in Kozak Plateau—one of Türkiye's most significant Pinus pinea distribution areas—through the cooperation of the İzmir and Balıkesir Regional Directorates of Forestry. During the program, practices aimed at increasing productivity in Pinus pinea stands, including pruning, thinning operations, pest management, and factors affecting cone yield, were addressed. Proper pruning techniques and maintenance methods were demonstrated through hands-on applications.

In İzmir's Bergama district, the Pinus pinea forests covering approximately 19,000 hectares in Kozak Plateau provide one of the most important sources of livelihood for the local community through the production of pine nuts.
